Summer Quarter Marked the Beginning of Classes for the ITT Technical Institute Opening Near Atlanta, GA

Jul 9, 2003

ITT Educational Services, Inc. (NYSE: ESI) has opened its 75th ITT Technical Institute in Duluth, a northern suburb of Atlanta, GA. Classes at the new career college began summer quarter, as students enrolled in the associate degree programs offered in Information Technology - Computer Network Systems and Information Technology - Multimedia.

"Recent Information Technology Association of America survey results summarizing 2002 show that the information technology industry began to stabilize, and that a modest increase in employment rates was also experienced within the technology market, even during a time of economic recession," said Rene R. Champagne, chairman and CEO. "We are further encouraged by the results of the Goldman Sachs & Co. survey of corporate executives which reported this month that business executives expect to increase technology spending during 2004 by as much as 3.5 percent. We believe that technology education continues to be a vehicle for exploring life-changing career possibilities."

The new ITT Tech in Duluth plans to add curricular offerings in response to prospective student interests. Additional programs accredited to be offered at this institute include: Computer Drafting and Design, Computer and Electronics Engineering Technology, Information Technology - Software Applications and Programming, and Information Technology - Web Development. The Duluth school is also accredited to offer bachelor degree programs in Data Communication Systems Technology, Electronics and Communications Engineering Technology, Information Systems Security, and Technical Project Management.

Enrolling students will be taking part of their chosen program of study online, thus reducing the amount of time they must attend resident classes at the campus. General education coursework credits, representing approximately 25 percent of each program of study, are being offered online via 24/7 Internet access to ITT Tech's online education platform. Students are required to complete assignments at the most convenient time for them once every eight days. Students are required to submit weekly assignments to maintain a valid registration.

General education curricular offerings include coursework designed to help students improve their skills in written and verbal communication, problem solving, teamwork, and group dynamics. Potential employers typically identify these skills, often referred to as "soft skills," as desired abilities they seek when hiring technology graduates.

Most ITT Technical Institute programs of study have been designed to blend traditional academic content with applied learning concepts taught in a laboratory environment to allow students the opportunity for hands-on application of the theory taught.

Joe Allen, Director of External Affairs for the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce said, "We are excited to welcome ITT Technical Institute as a new member of our organization. I anticipate that many of our member organizations will benefit from ITT Tech's contributions to help improve the pool of skilled technology workers from which employers may hire as they grow our technology economy. In the meantime, I appreciate the willingness of ITT Tech to solicit area business input about their programs and to offer their meeting space and technology labs to area high schools and local technology organizations."

The ITT Technical Institute in Duluth offers classes year round with convenient breaks provided throughout the year. In-residence classes typically meet four to five hours per day, in either morning, afternoon or evening sessions that allow students greater flexibility to pursue employment while juggling the responsibilities of school and family.
